Commission launches consultation on EU food supply chain
16 August 2017
The European Commission has launched a consultation on how to make the EU food supply chain fairer.
The Commission is concerned that farmers and small suppliers may lack bargaining power when dealing with other parts of the food chain such as food processors and retailers. The consultation could result in measures to strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain, measures to improve market transparency and/or measures around producer cooperation.
The Commission has issued a questionnaire and invites responses from a wide range of stakeholders including farmers, processors, distributors, retailers, consumers and public bodies.
Responses to the questionnaire must be submitted by 17 November.
